Did you know that you carry a "reset button" with you everywhere you go? It’s your breath! When we get stressed or scared, our breathing gets fast and shallow. This tells our brain that there is an emergency, which makes us feel even more stressed. It’s a big, messy loop. Breathwork is just a way to break that loop and tell your body everything is fine.

This is the fastest form of meditation for stress. You can do it while you are standing in line at the grocery store or sitting in a boring meeting. Nobody will even know you are doing it! One simple way is to breathe in for four counts and then breathe out for a long, slow six counts. That long exhale is what tells your nervous system to chill out.

On MyNirvan, we have easy guides that help you find the right rhythm. It’s amazing how much better you can feel after just sixty seconds of focused breathing. Your heart rate slows down, your muscles loosen up, and that "heavy" feeling in your chest starts to go away. It’s a simple tool, but it is super powerful. Next time you feel like you are going to blow a fuse, just stop and take three big, slow breaths. You’ll be surprised at how much it helps.
