How I Stopped Being Broke in Brawl Stars (And You Can Too!)

So, you’ve just unlocked that one Brawler you’ve been eyeing for weeks—maybe it’s the cool new Edgar or the majestic Tara—and you’re feeling on top of the world. Then you check your coin count. Cue record scratch. You’ve got, like, 12 coins. Your Star Powers are dusty. Your Gadgets are a distant dream. Suddenly, you’re not a Brawl Stars champion; you’re a digital beggar.

Trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve had the “I have 500 coins and 3,000 gems but NOTHING TO SPEND THEM ON” crisis (it’s a weird, privileged problem, but it’s real!). I’ve also had the “I need 2,000 coins for this Power Level and I’m crying into my controller” low. Over the years, I’ve cobbled together a system that’s less about grinding until your thumbs fall off and more about playing smart(ish). Here’s my totally non-official, slightly chaotic, but very personal guide.

1. The Daily Quest: Your New Best Friend (Who Sends You on Weird Missions)

Look, I know. “Do 3 matches as a Thrower” when you hate throwers feels like a personal insult from the game itself. But hear me out: do them anyway. I used to skip them because I wanted to play my main, but then I realized something. They’re not just for gems (though that 30-gem reward is a nice little sugar rush). They’re a forced variety trainer. They make you play Brawlers you’d never touch, and guess what? Sometimes you find a new main! I discovered I’m secretly decent at 8-Bit because of a “Use Super 5 times” quest. Now he’s in my regular rotation. So, grumble if you must, but complete those quests. Your future coin pile will thank you.

My Quirk: I talk to my phone while doing quests. “Okay, game, you want me to play as a Shelly? FINE. But I’m doing it in Hot Zone, and I’m going to be extra aggressive.” It makes the suffering feel more theatrical.

2. Trophy Road: The Emotional Rollercoaster You Can’t Get Off

Ah, the Trophy Road. The beautiful, glittering path of rewards that also doubles as your personal anxiety generator. Every 10 trophies, a little chest pops up with coins, sometimes a Brawler, sometimes a skin. My tip? Don’t just push for the next Brawler. Play to maintain and grow your trophy count on your favorite Brawlers. Why? Because the higher your overall trophy count, the better the rewards on the road get. It’s a slow burn, but it’s consistent. Also, that feeling when you hit a new bracket (like 10k or 15k) and get a MEGA box? Chef’s kiss. Pure, unadulterated joy. I may have screamed when I got my first Mega Box. My dog thought I was hurt.

3. Starr Road: The Grind That Feels Good (Sometimes)

This is where the real coin hustle lives. Once you’ve unlocked all the Brawlers from the regular Trophy Road (a monumental task, I know), you hit the Starr Road. Each Brawler has a set number of Power Points to collect to max them. Every single Power Point you earn (from boxes, events, etc.) counts toward this. So, even if you’re not actively trying to max a specific Brawler, you’re always making progress here. And the rewards? COINS, BABY. So many coins. It’s the ultimate “participation trophy” system, and I am here for it. Just keep opening boxes and playing. Your Starr Road progress bar is always moving, even when you feel stuck.

4. The Big Box Dilemma: To Save or Not to Save?

This is the debate that divides my friend group. I’m a saver. I hoard Big Boxes like a dragon hoards gold (see what I did there?). Why? Because when a new Brawler drops, you need a lot of Power Points for them. Opening 10 Big Boxes on a new Brawler’s release day feels like hitting the jackpot. My friend Alex, though? He’s an opener. “The thrill is in the now, man!” he says. He opens everything as he gets it. He’s gotten lucky with early unlocks, but he’s also cried when a new Brawler comes out and he has zero points for them.

My compromise: I save until I have about 15-20 Big Boxes, then I’ll open a few to relieve the pressure. But if a Brawler I really want is coming? I go full squirrel mode. No touchy.

5. Power League: The Sweaty, Glorious Coin Factory

Okay, hear me out. If you can handle the stress. Power League is the single best source of coins in the game, period. The rewards at the end of each season (based on your highest rank) are insane. We’re talking tens of thousands of coins. I know, I know—it’s intimidating. It’s all try-hards with maxed Brawlers. But here’s my secret: you don’t have to climb to Legend. Just get your first win in each league (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.). That’s it. Do your 5 matches, get that win, collect the reward, and relax. You don’t have to sweat for hours. I do this while watching TV. It’s a chill, weekly coin injection.

My Anecdote: I got my first Gold win last season with a team of random Brawlers (a Piper, a Frank, and me as a Nita). We had zero synergy, but we clutched it. The coin reward felt like a victory parade just for us.

6. Events & Challenges: The Free-for-All Fun

Don’t sleep on the special events! The 3v3 and Duo Showdown events often have coin rewards for just playing a few matches. The Starr Drops (the little free boxes you get every few hours) are obvious, but the Challenges are where it’s at. Even if you only complete the first few tiers, you get coins and sometimes a Big Box. I set a goal: “I’ll do the first 3 tiers of every challenge, no matter what.” It’s a low-effort, high-reward habit.

7. The “Oops, I Forgot This Existed” Method: Club League

If you’re in a semi-active club, Club League is another hidden gem (pun intended). The weekly rewards include coins and boxes. You don’t even need to win! Just play your 5 matches. Your clubmates will appreciate the participation, and your coin pouch will get a little heavier. It’s a win-win.

The Real Talk: At the end of the day, there’s no magic “get 10,000 coins NOW” button (if someone tells you there is, they’re trying to scam you, run!). It’s about consistent, mindful play. Do your dailies. Chase those trophy milestones. Play a little Power League. Open your Starr Drops.

And most importantly? Play for fun first. The coins will come. The Brawlers will unlock. The Star Powers will be yours. But if you’re grinding so hard you’re not enjoying the game, what’s the point? I’ve had some of my funniest, most memorable moments in Brawl Stars when I was just messing around in a random event with my club, not caring about coins at all.

So go forth, my coinless comrade! Be strategic, be a little bit stingy with your boxes, and for Supercell’s sake, do your daily quests. You’ll be maxing out your favorite Brawler’s gadgets before you know it.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go check if my Starr Road progress bar moved. It’s an addiction.

Happy Brawling!

— Your friendly neighborhood coin-hoarder (who still somehow runs out).
